1. Players joining the Battletech-Mercenaries community must create original characters with full a biography. Copies of already established characters in the Battletech Universe such as Victor Davion, Phelan Ward, Kai Allard-Liao etc. or any close biological relation to them are not permitted. All players must submit their characters through the Battletech-Mercenaries join form. The MRBC will first make sure that the player is not breaking any Member Conduct rules and then they will forward it on to the Mercenary Unit Commanding Officer for final approval.
PENALTY: An Application form will be rejected and not forwarded to a Mercenary Unit
2. Battletech-Mercenaries is a combined PBeM and PBF group. All Mercenary Units, unless otherwise approved by the MRBC must be PBeM (Play by Email) or PBF (Play by Forum). If you want to Role Play in another fashion other than PBeM or PBF you must ask and receive authorization before setting up your game other than PBeM or PBF. (Note: using another format then posting on an approved system is allowed)
PENALTY: A Grade 6 Offense, after 7 days a Grade 4 Offense, after 7 days a Grade 2 Offense
3. A Mercenary Unit Commanding Officer may reject any applicant to their unit, regardless of any previous Role Playing experience. They have final say on the personnel within their respective units.
PENALTY: An applicant must re-apply to another Mercenary Unit
4. The posting standards of Battletech-Mercenaries expect a player to post once every two weeks. If the player has not posted after another additional week the Mercenary Unit Commanding Officer may remove them from the Mercenary Unit without inquiry from the MRBC. Mercenary Unit Commanding Officers may adjust posting requirements but must have their respective players informed of the change. If the player in question is in fact the MUCO him/herself, he or she will be placed on probation not to exceed 30 days before proceedings are implemented to relieve them of their command.

5. The LOA (Leave of Absence) can be used by any and all players within Battletech-Mercenaries. It is used by a player when they can not meet the criteria of ‘Rule 4’ but must state a time of return. Mercenary Unit Commanding Officers can not refuse a LOA unless it is being abused by the player.

6. Only a player's Mercenary Unit Commanding Officer can determine promotion/demotions and position assignments within their respective Mercenary Units. Promotions and Demotions are generally based on posting quality and quantity and other assistance given to the players Mercenary Unit Commanding Officer. A Mercenary Unit Commanding Officer may not promote a subordinate to equal or beyond their current MRBC assigned rank unless given permission by the Director of the MRBC. If a player breaks this rule without the Mercenary Unit Commanding Officer's approval, it is the responsibility of the Mercenary Unit Commanding Officer to deal with it by notifying the MRBC.
PENALTY: A Grade 5 Offense, after 7 days a Grade 6 Offense, after 7 days a Grade 2 Offense
7. Contract bids are only made by the Mercenary Unit Commanding Officer or Mercenary Unit Executive Officer and must begin within the first 15 days of being listed on MERC-NET. Contract transcripts must be submitted within 15 days of the contract end date. (negotiable contracts can be submitted as soon as the Transcript minimum is reached) Although the contract story can continue beyond that date, no more revenue can be made. A Mercenary Unit must have a minimum of 4 active players to bid on contract.

8. Mercenary Unit Commanding Officers must not actively recruit within Battletech-Mercenaries for more members beyond the recruitment board on the Forums. Look outside for players, help us grow and not over extend players. (Note: only overt abuse of this rule will be penalized, we will not actively police this) Transfers between units concerning already established characters are accepted if the Mercenary Unit Commanding Officer of the unit that the character is being transferred to accepts them and the Mercenary Unit that is being left has been given a 2 week warning before the transfer.

9. A: A Mercenary Unit Commanding Officer can not change their unit's name with out proper authorization. B: A Unit can not alter their Military Hardware Loadouts or what Military Hardware they have without purchasing new equipment from the Military Hardware Broker. Temporary 'In Character' alterations of hardware for a short-term specific storyline reason are accepted if it is not officially documented anywhere.

10. Battletech-Mercenaries etiquette must be at all times polite and respectful to all players. Moderate cursing is permitted though players must restrain themselves from bad behavior or insulting gestures. This is a 15+ Role Playing Community and strong sexual or extreme violent material is not acceptable within Battletech-Mercenaries. Exercise good judgment and be sensible and respectful to other players and the Battletech-Mercenaries community. (Note: if the rule is broken within only the one Mercenary Unit, please consult the Mercenary Unit Commanding Officer first)

11. Players must attempt to keep their posts realistic. There are no such things as 600 ton mechs or a Warship in the ownership of a merchant and if your in a Light Mech with only 2 small lasers your not likely going to survive a direct battle with a full armed Assault Mech.

12. A player can only have a maximum of five active characters within the whole of Battletech-Mercenaries and only one of those can be Mercenary Unit Commanding Officer. A player can only have two characters per Mercenary Unit and each one is recommended to be of a different class (ie. 'Mechwarrior, Aerospace pilot, Technician, Infantry, Battle Armor, DropShip, or JumpShip). A player can have also have an additional non-posting character (MRBC Staff &Faction Ambassadors) that are used purely for administrational purposes. A player may hold a MRBC Staff or Faction Ambassador position and be a Mercenary Unit Commanding Officer at the same time so long as the rules for conflict of interest (#20) are observed.

13. When concerning Battletech-Mercenaries changes, Battletech-Mercenaries conflicts or Battletech-Mercenaries interests, the Director decides on what course Battletech-Mercenaries follows. The Director's decisions can only be overturned by the unanimous co-operation of the rest of the current Department of Mercenary Management, but it is advised that the Director take the advice of the rest of the MRBC into consideration.
PENALTY: A Grade 5 Offense, the Grade raises after each abuse (Against those who knowingly contradict the CoC)
14. If any player has a complaint against another player, including Mercenary Unit Commanding Officers, Ambassador or MRBC Staff Member they should refer to the issue to the Deputy Director, who will investigate and make a recommendation to the Director about possible Penalties. If the Deputy Director is the target of the complainant should go straight to the Director.

15. Battletech-Mercenaries reserves the right to solicit and entail the removal of any player who is judged to be found a danger to a safe Role Playing environment, this includes issues deemed have real world seriousness. The judgment will be executed at the sole discretion of the Director with no appeal.
PENALTY: A Grade 1 Offense (Instant Ban)
16. If a Mercenary Unit Commanding Officer, Ambassador or MRBC Staff Member resigns or is removed from Battletech-Mercenaries they will not be able to hold the same type of position within Battletech-Mercenaries for a term of 3 months from the date of resignation or removal. Adjustments and exceptions can be made by the Director pending the reason for resignation or removal and the co-operation of the player. Players that were a part of a Mercenary Unit will be offered roles in other Mercenary Units that have openings regardless of the opinion of the resigned or removed Mercenary Unit Commanding Officer.

17. If a Mercenary Unit Commanding Officer, Ambassador or MRBC Staff Member are found to be in dereliction of their duty to Command their Unit or for fill their assigned duties they may be removed by the Director at the recommendation of the Deputy Director.
PENALTY: A Grade 4 Offense (Subject to Member Conduct rule #16)
18. If a Mercenary Unit becomes unfeasible, the Mercenary Unit Commanding Officer may wish to merge with another unit to consolidate the players, one being designated as a Parent Unit and the other becoming the Secondary Unit. The Secondary Unit's equipment will be cashed out back to the MHB at the normal 50% resell rate and the cash amount will be awarded to the Parent Unit. The Parent Unit's reputation will remain intact. They may do so if both units have existed for over 6 months and have the Director's permission to proceed.

19. Any person holding office in the MRBC, shall be removed from office on impeachment, upon a vote-of-no-confidence by the community, of misconduct, dereliction of their duty, or other offense against the community. In essence, impeachment reflects a check by the BTM Community on the elected and appointed positions.
PENALTY: An Impeachable Offense
20. A Staff member, who participates as a member of a unit (in any capacity including as players, MUCOs, or MUXOs), are required to report any possible conflict of interest to the staff list or forum. A conflict of interest may arise when information pertaining to the unit they also are attached to as a player may result in an undue benefit being awarded to the unit in the exercise of a Staff Responsibility or Power. Once reported, if any other staff member agrees, then a neutral staff member can be assigned to alleviate the conflict. This rule was added on 12/02/2015 in order to enable MUCOs to serve as staff while also running a unit.
PENALTY: A Grade 5 Offense, if three violations occur in a 6 month period, the staff member is removed from the staff, and may not return to a staff role for 12 months.
PENALTIES GUIDE
A penalty will only issued against those that have been found guilty under investigation by the MRBC. Nearly all cases require an accusation to be made by a player. We do not police all postings and communications.
GRADE 1 OFFENSE
The worst offense that can be made in BTM, which requires the immediate removal of player from every part of the organization with a lifetime ban and possible need to inform authorities. This is done by Director or if on LOA, the Deputy Director.
GRADE 2 OFFENSE
This is a very serious offense of the rules and requires the immediate suspension of the player from BTM by any member of the MRBC Staff and review by the Director after an investigation by the Deputy Director.
GRADE 3 OFFENSE
This is a serious offense, the player will receive an email warning from the Deputy Director after consultation with the Director and their forum account will be suspended for a 3 month period and they will receive a 80% increase warn level for a period of 6 months after their return.
GRADE 4 OFFENSE
This is a moderate offense, the player will receive an email warning from the Deputy Director after consultation with the Director and their forum account will be suspended for a 30 day period and they will receive a 60% increase warn level for a period of 6 months.
GRADE 5 OFFENSE
This is a light offense, the player will receive an email warning from the Deputy Director and their forum account will be suspended for a 7 day period and they will receive a 40% increase warn level for a period of 6 months.
GRADE 6 OFFENSE
This is a warning, the player will receive an email warning from the Deputy Director and their forum account will receive a 20% increase to the warning level for a period of 6 months.
IMPEACHABLE OFFENSE
This is a serious offense, authorized by the MRBC, in which the community brings allegation against Presidential Senator or Ambassadors of BattleTech Mercenaries for misconduct while in office. It provides a way for the BTM Community to deal with serious misconduct by both elected and nonelected members of the MRBC. And no person shall be impeached without the concurrence of two thirds of the members who deem it prudent enough to cast thier votes within the specified time frame, 'generally' within 48 hours. Judgment in cases of impeachment shall not extend further than to removal from office, and disqualification to hold and enjoy any office of honor, trust under the MRBC for a term of 6 months from the date of resignation or impeachment.
