On February 13, Victor Milan, science fiction writer, passed away after prolonged health issues. The writer of a number of science fiction novels including Cybernetic Samurai and the Dinosaur Lords series and others, with a total of approximately 100 novels and short stories in both his name and pseudonyms. He was also a writer for a number of universes including the Wild Card universe with George RR Martin, Forgotten Realms, Star Trek, Rogue Angel, and (most important to us) Battletech.

Mr. Milan wrote the three Comacho's Caballeros novels, Close Quarters, Heart of Chaos, and Black Dragon for Classic Battletech. He also wrote Flight of the Falcon and A Rending of Falcons for MechWarrior: Dark Ages. Personally, his three books about the Caballeros are some of my favorite books of the entire series and the Caballeros are one of my favorite canon mercenary units. Here is a link to his obituary at TOR.com.

Rest in peace, sir.

I can't say I'm familiar with him or his work, but it is sad to see him pass.

Check out the Battletech books for sure, a lot more flavor to them than many of the other books about mercenary units. I haven't read his Dark Ages novels, but I am certain they are just as good even if they seem to be about the Jade Falcons. And his Dinosaur Knights books just totally rock.

I've read a few, but I haven't had the chance to read any of his.
