[3034] On March 13, 3034, Haakon Magnusson declared himself Prince of the Free Rasalhague Republic, which included most of the former Rasalhague Military District of the Draconis Combine, as well as numerous worlds captured by the Lyran Commonwealth during the Forth succession War. ComStar quickly recognized this new state, as did Coordinator Takashi Kurita.
Not all the Warlords of the Combine accepted the decision to recognize Rasalhague's independence. The Warlords of the Pesht and Dieron Districts, Marcus Kurita and Vasily Cherenkoff, disagreed violently with the decision to surrender Combine worlds and vowed to fight. Under the leadership of Marcus Kurita, the renegade forces attacked the FRR.

Gunji no Kanrei Theodore Kurita branded these men ronin, declaring that they did not act in the name of the Draconis Combine. He then sent DCMS troops to cut off the ronin from heir supply bases in the Combine and ordered his men to crush any resistance. Vasily Cherenkoff died in the ronin invasion when his Atlas was beheaded on Orestes. His second-in-command, Tai-sho Dexter Kingsley, withdrew from the fight and swore his allegiance to the Kanrei.

[3056] Orestes became the capital of the remainder of the Free Rasalhague Republic in 3052. As all of the Republic's major training facilities were lost to the Clan's, a new military academy was constructed on Orestes. The Tyra Miraborg Memorial Academy opened in 3056, and has had full classes every year since then. It is best known for its training programs for aerospace pilots and naval crews. A department for training MechWarriors also exists, but it often eclipsed by the aerospace programs.

The most notable instructor is General Tor Miraborg, ex-commander of the Radstadt Province and father of the famed pilot. Miraborg's classes are always full, despite his opposition of many of verbeflhavare Mnsdotter's policies.

The TMM is open to all Republic citizens who can meet its physical and mental entry requirements, but there are always more applicants than available spaces.

Socio-Industrial Levels:
Technological Development
High-tech world with advanced research centers and universities; best medical care available; cutting-edge microelectronics industry.
Industrialization Level
Moderately industrialized; may produce a limited number/quantity of specific complex products.
Raw Material Dependence
World/system produces some of the raw materials needed and imports the rest.
Industrial Output
World has a moderate industrial base that produces a few different categories of products, exporting some of the output.
Agricultural Dependence
World has and environment producing most foods, but relies on some imports for food not capable of being grown.

In 3090 there was a significant Lyran-backed insurrection on Orestes. An organization called the Frihet, backed, trained and supplied by the Lyrans, rose up in open rebellion against the Rasalhague Dominion. Backed by elements of the Dioscuri mercenary command, they nearly succeeded in securing the entire planet. Thousands of anti-Clan rebels seized control of most of the planet, killing Clansmen of every walk of life. Although the bulk of the rebels were infantry, they included a significant Mech force of Frihet fighters trained off-world by Lyrans. When the rebellion occurred, several Clan bases and outposts were simply wiped out and a thousand battles both large and small broke out across the planet.

The Dominion hung on by their claws. Survivors from the 12th Bear Guards and the 10th Phalanx first defeated a large attack on the massive Ursa Minor Sibko Training Center, then went on the counterattack to retake the planet’s HPG and the government complex where the planet’s Valdherre (planetary leader) was being held hostage. The Dominion forces succeeded in getting a message out and the Clan’s Beta Galaxy soon arrived to restore order. For reasons unknown to the Combine, the Lyran’s promised follow-up of a significant military force to assist the Frihet never materialized. Or at least they didn’t arrive in time. The Frihet were crushed and hunted down like dogs. The Dominion even attacked their training base in Lyran space, destroying the complex where the Frihet were trained by Lyran commandos. The message was a powerful one, and the Lyrans promptly gave up on the Frihet.

That was five years ago, and Orestes has been under a tight grip ever since the rebellion. Due to two major military manufacturers being there, and both an Inner Sphere style military academy for the KungsArme, and a large Clan Sibko training center, Orestes is understandably very important to the Dominion.

Until recently, we believed that no less than an entire frontline Galaxy was stationed on Orestes at any given time. In addition, our agents had a noted a significant Clan Watch anti-terrorist force presence, and some combat and carrier dropships patrolling the system. With this intense focus on Orestes security, our intelligence-gathering efforts have suffered. Orestes became a black hole, as far as intelligence gathering was concerned.

That status quo just changed. Our most recent reports indicate that many of Orestes military bases have emptied and that their orbital defenses have also been considerably weakened. The defense of Orestes appears to have been pared down in size. We do not know why, or to what extent.

We want to test Orestes defenses and see what’s there. We also want to find out if there is any Frihet presence left at all, and if so, establish a line of communication. The Dragon is open to the possibility of supporting the Frihet. The Dragon was impressed by how close they came to prying Orestes from the Dominion and see an opportunity to indirectly hurt the Dominion by cooperating with these rebels, assuming they still exist.

There is no shortage of viable military targets on Orestes, and a strike on any of them will likely tell us what we need to know. Sowing the seeds of chaos, and reminding the Dominion of how close they came to disaster the last time war came to Orestes is the real mission. We want the Dominion to be paranoid and forced to devote forces inward. Such a distraction is beneficial to the Dragon.

1) Raid one or more Orestes’ military targets and assess the strength of local defenses
2) Find out if the Frihet still exist, and if they do, establish a line of communication

1) Inspire fear that Orestes may be lost and force the Dominion to respond
2) Damage one or more of the valid military targets
