PLANETARY DETAILS:
Often referred to as "New Taurus", Sterope is one of the largest centers of weapons production found outside the Hyades Cluster. With a native population of more than 75 million, Sterope is homeworld to Sterope Defense Industries as well as numerous firms managed by Taurus Territorial Industries. Weapons manufacture on Sterope runs the gamut from DropShips and Aerospace fighters, to tanks, armoured fighting vehicles and small arms.

Considering how important Sterope is to the Taurian war effort, the planet is not assigned an ongoing garrison of 'Mech forces. However, Sterope's planetary landscape is dotted with numerous redoubts and heavily fortified strong-points able to withstand even the heaviest concentrated attacks. Backing up these huge emplacements are several Noble's Regiments, locally raised and equipped battalions of paramilitary forces under the direction of regional aristocrats. These local troops can be called up at a moments notice to aid in the defense of the planet's vital factory complexes. These units have always held off attackers long enough for reinforcements to arrive, and so Protector Calderon sees no reason to station 'Mech and armor units on the planet. Many in the Taurian Defense Force feel it is only a matter of time before the Noble Family regiments run out of luck.

EMPLOYER SITUATION REPORT:
Clan Star Adder has been targeting the Taurian Concordat with small raids. Most are trinary or supernova trinary-size operations. But that’s often enough to thrash local defenders and leave trails of destruction. The Adders seem to take a perverse delight in the ferocity of Taurian defenders. Intelligence captured from Federated Suns’ sources suggests the Adders are using us as a pressure release valve for their more aggressive warriors.

By jumping through uninhabited systems, the Adder raids have popped up as far as Carthage, deep inside the Concordat. Recently a Clan jumpship was caught spying in the Sterope system. It jumped away before naval forces could intercept it.

This might have been a simple Clan Watch surveillance operation. Or it might have been intelligence gathering for a raid. We have to assume the latter.

Sterope is better defended than most of the targets the Adders have hit so far. But its notably lacking in mobile forces. Most of the noble regiments are infantry and artillery units, geared toward static defense with field guns, artillery pieces and heavy support weapons set up as part of lines of fortifications. No doubt they would take a toll on any Clan raiders, but the Adders could tear apart the defensive lines one layer at a time at their own discretion. The resulting casualties would be unacceptably high and demoralizing.

We need a more mobile unit on Sterope. A force capable of counterattacking or flanking a Clan force. A unit capable of reclaiming the initiative. A hammer to the noble regiments’ anvil. If you accept the contract, your unit will serve in that capacity.
